Polaroid lift is back!!! with the Impossible Project

Friday, October 29th, 2010

I love polaroid lifts and I was seriously saddened when the legendary polaroid 669 disappeared. It meant that I had not had my chance to experience and play around with the technic myself.

Fuji lift transferWith a friend, on a lazy Sunday afternoon we did try to lift the emulsion of Fuji ArtiZtic … pretty unsuccessfully overall. I managed to really lift one single image:

And then after multiple failed attempts at lifting the fuji emulsion, I went on experimenting even more, and I ended up boiling the instant fuji and got these interesting results:

Fuji ArtiZtic lift emulsion

For more serious and proper polaroid lift transfers, check out Nicola J Maskrey’whose work I saw at Photomonth, I found her Ophelia set enchanting.

Anyway, I found it wonderful news to hear that the ImpossibleProject instant emulsion can be lifted ! That’s something to keep one busy over Christmas! Check out the Impossible project website and also this utube video showing the emulsion lift on punchy musical background ! Also, check this one out: How to: Make PX Film Emulsion transfer /Lift demo

Impossible projectI would love to hear from your experiences lifting Impossible instant emulsions…

Portfolio Building and Editing

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Last Wednesday Antje gave a talk about ‘Portfolio Project’ – On that evening she was addressing the initial steps in creating a portfolio and also talking about the groups joint project and where we are going with that.

Here is the resume of her talk:

Portfolio Building:

About yourself, so your strongest images (showcase) BUT also about your audience, not a monolithic thing, it evolves with you and with your (hopefully) expanding reach.

No usually a general overview over everything you do, unless it’s for an application to arts college / university.
For publication and for exhibitions a good base are series of photographs.

Portfolio Editing:

Don’t be daunted, rating your images is already the start to your portfolio editing work.
Don’t just go by what your favourite images are, someone else may not see what you see in them, run your portfolio by fellow photographers if you can.
Remember it’s an evolution and keep updating the portfolio as you continue to work on a project.

Factors influencing portfolio building and editing:

is the portfolio for galleries or magazines?

in either case, find out as much as you can about gallery/magazine, contact person (telephone, email), the way the want submissions etc.

But also, what are they about? what do they normally show/publish? how does your work fit in/contrast?

LondonCP present their apologises…

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

LondonCP apologises to all, and to Stoo Batchelor himself  for the last minute reschedule of the talk “Photographic journey” which did not take place as planned ; this was due to our partner for the location who did not hold on to his prior commitment with us.

The talk is postponed until another date becomes available and we can secure a reliable location for our event.

In the meantime thank you to all who came on the evening, for making it another great LondonCP evening.

Bear with us as we are working to make this talk happen !!!!
